Summary
Chachacoma (Senecio graveolens – Asteraceae) is a widely used medicinal shrub throughout the highlands in Bolivia, Chile and Argentina. Recent studies suggest antibiotic, antimycotic and solar protective actions in the essential oil and components. Antiparasitic (against Tripanosma cruzi) and antihypertensive actions are also of interest, although further clinical studies will be needed in order to confirm these actions in patients.
